A waiting period is the time at the start of your policy before certain covers kick in.

Think of your excess as your share of the vet bill. You only pay the excess once per condition, per policy year. It’s the fixed amount you agree to pay towards each new condition when you take out your policy. After you’ve paid it, we step in and cover the rest (up to your cover limits).

Also known as direct settlement- at your request, Lassie offers direct billing with your veterinarian. This means that instead of you paying the invoice upfront, your veterinarian sends the invoice directly to Lassie, and we send the reimbursement to the vet.

Yes -Lassie does accept pets with pre-existing conditions, which not all insurers do. However, it's important to understand what that means in practice.

A pre-existing condition is defined as any medical or behavioural condition your pet has suffered from in the 24 months before your policy start date - whether or not it was diagnosed or showing symptoms at the time.

Any such condition, and anything related to it, won't be covered under your policy.

Only new conditions that arise after you're insured will be eligible for a claim.

There are a couple of nuances worth knowing about. If your pet has had a bilateral condition (one that can affect both sides of the body, like cruciate ligaments or eyes), and it reoccurs on the other side during your policy, it will still be treated as a pre-existing condition and won't be covered.

Similarly, related conditions - for example, diabetes and diabetic cataracts - are treated as one condition.

The good news is that conditions your pet recovered from more than 24 months ago may be covered if they reoccur.
For example, if your pet had kennel cough three years ago and fully recovered, a new bout could be eligible for a claim.
